Engagement?

Posted on May 27, 2007

I've also been thinking about Jen a lot lately. We're nearing 9 months together, which in the scheme of things isn't very much.  However I love her in ways I've never loved anyone else before, she supports me in everything I do, puts up with my shananigans, and goes to efforts to make sure I feel loved too.  To top things off, she would make a fantastic mother.

In short, I want to marry this woman. I've know this for a long time, but I also know there is some sort of pseudo-rules about how long people should be together first and what not.  Chemically speaking I'm confident this has been enough time for the initial lust stage to run its course.

So how long is right? There are the typical bullshit answers "when it feels right", etc. I think the jist of it is no one really knows the answer because there is no right.

I don't think I'm going to do any better than Jen.  I don't really understand the point of waiting much beyond this point to ask her, but at the same time I don't want it to be rushed like so many relationships these days (I see frequent tell of getting engaged in the first 3 months, or even the first 1-4 weeks).

Met my brother Jonathon and a good chunk of his family. My niece was born via induced labour 6pm May 24th.

Jonathon and his father, Hubert, both seem like good decent people. As far as I can tell they are honest, take pride in their work, and do their best to help everyone they can. I find Jonathon a bit hard to understand due to the pitch of his voice, but that seems to be fading as I hear more of it.

It's strange, I mean I guess they are family but they are still strangers. Blood does not magically bond, and given my personality and what seems to be his I doubt we will ever be "close" per sey. Alas, at least we have met and will likely get to know each other.

Niece!

In case anyone that happened to see this before is wondering what I'm up to, the answer is robotics at Algonquin in Ottawa starting September.

In other news, my brother (whom for those of you who don't know was adopted before I was born and I have never met) and I are now in pretty regular email contact. Turns out he and his wife and going to have a daughter in July, so biologically speaking I'm about to become an uncle! We'll probably meet rather shortly, which will probably be rather strange. Having never met a long lost brother I don't much know what to do but I'm sure the mechanics will work themselves out as he seems like a nice guy.

Alright back in blogging buisiness now.

In todays news Sweet Janes (a local candy store) delivered to me a package.

"Wayne -

Happy 8 months Baby!

Sorry I'm not there.. but candy will keep you company :)

Love you, Jen XOQ"

(If you don't know what Q is, don't ask).

So my girlfriend is awesome, even while she is away she manages to be sweet. However Sweet Jane's fails for a couple reasons:

1) This was supposed to be delivered Saturday, it is now Monday.

2) Jen's mom was supposed to receive one Sunday, but did not.

At any rate let's see what we have here.

Candy Basket of Awesomeness contents:

1x Candy Bubbles

1x uhh.. misc. bag of candy

1x bag of jelly bellies

1x pack of cinnamon gum "This orgy is off to a slow start"

1x Lindor

1x Caramel apple pop

1x Milk Duds

1x Goobers

1x Wonka Bar

1x Cow tales

1x Jetfire Glider

Holy crap, that's a lot of stuff, many thanks to my (once again) awesome girlfriend.
